What we’re drinking this week: Moillard Meursault Chardonnay

Moillard Meursault Chardonnay brings a little bit of Burgundy to the table and is just the bottle to open when there’s something worth celebrating

Moillard Meursault Chardonnay 750ml, R1,499.99, Woolworths

Sometimes it really is all about the address. Moillard Meursault is 100% chardonnay from Meursault, one of Burgundy’s most famous white wine villages, in the Côte de Beaune. The village has built its reputation on chardonnay, producing some of Burgundy’s most sought-after whites. In other words, this is chardonnay with a very good postcode.

Why we love it:

Meursault has a habit of ruining ordinary chardonnay for people. Moillard’s version is rich and elegant, with ripe orchard fruit, subtle toast and beautifully integrated oak. At R1,499.99, it’s definitely a treat, but one worth saving for a celebration. Pair it with lobster, scallops, roast chicken or a very good French cheese, and make an occasion of it.
