Summer in a cup
Forget the weather forecast. The real sign of summer is the arrival of limited-edition drinks menus. Seattle Coffee Company is embracing local flavours with new amasi shakes in mango, strawberry and pineapple. Meanwhile, vida e caffè is offering cereal-flavoured milk with everything from iced matcha to lattes and frios. It reminds us of New York’s famous Milk Bar cereal milk soft serve. We’re sold.
Killing it, America
America really is a foreign country. Tennessee murderer Christa Pike survived two doses of lethal injection drugs and is now recovering in hospital. Meanwhile, the Pentagon plans to livestream the December firing-squad execution of Nidal Hasan, convicted of killing 13 people at Fort Hood in 2009. One execution goes horribly wrong, the other becomes must-see television. What a time to be alive (or dead, it seems).
The gloves are off
Michael Jackson’s famous rhinestone glove is heading back under the hammer. Worn during his legendary 1983 Billie Jean moonwalk performance, it fetched $430,000 in 2009. Now it’s expected to sell for $600,000–$800,000 at Julien’s Auctions in Abu Dhabi this December, alongside his iconic red Thriller jacket and two pairs of loafers. Not bad for a single glove.
