There was a moment of doubt when major market Nigeria, pulling its usual regulatory tricks, halted all airtime credit services. But things are up and running again and airtime credit provider Optasia, under CEO Salvador Anglada, has just posted a bumper set of first-half numbers. Still, the stock is way off its IPO price and Anglada will have to produce the goods in the second half to rekindle the market’s favour.

A bad week for Bertina Engelbrecht

As Anchor Capital’s Peter Armitage puts it: foreign investors are “growth tourists” and the growth at beauty and pharmacy retailer Clicks no longer seems to be good enough for investors. With its share price at a 52-week low and less than half its record highs of R405, CEO Bertina Engelbrecht has a giant job on her hands to convince the market otherwise.
