A bad week for the Boks
“We played stupidly, and a lot of those messages came from me,” said Bok coach Rassie Erasmus of the 33-16 drubbing by New Zealand at Ellis Park. Five tries to one, despite dominating territory, with the All Blacks defter at stealing the ball and more ruthless near the try line. The Boks need three victories to win the series. C’mon Rassie, show your smarts!
A good week for MTN’s Ralph Mupita
MTN posted record interim profit, with ebitda rising 24% to R56bn. For good measure, MTN CEO Ralph Mupita announced a R6bn buyback, alongside healthy growth in customer numbers (+7%), data (+21%) and service revenue (+10%). There were dark spots: headline earnings fell, and the South African business was distinctly soggy, particularly in prepaid. Debt is down; expect bolder capital moves.
