If you tend to automatically reach for cabernet sauvignon, it might be time to try something a little different. Meet cabernet franc, its lighter, brighter relative and one of the key grapes behind the classic Bordeaux blend. It’s also one of the world’s most widely planted wine grapes. It often does low-key work in blends, but give it a chance to fly solo and the varietal proves it’s much more than a supporting act.

This French delight is fresh and full of character and an excellent reminder to venture beyond your usual red. And why not make an occasion of it?
