What we’re drinking this week: Vergelegen Estate White Blend

An unpretentious white blend that deserves more than just one glass

Some wines earn a regular spot on dinner and lunch tables. Vergelegen Estate White is one of them. Produced on one of South Africa’s oldest wine estates from cool, ocean-facing vineyards overlooking the Atlantic, it’s the sort of consistently elegant white that reminds you that more than 300 years of winemaking experience counts for something.

Why we love it:

Vergelegen Estate White Blend is a stealth show-stealer. Bright with lemon, crisp green apple and a hint of rosemary, it’s all tied together by a lovely flinty minerality. Fresh, elegant and completely unfussy, it reminds you just how good South African white blends can be and why it’s perfectly acceptable to pour yourself another glass. Pair it with delicate sushi and sashimi, citrus-glazed pork loin or a creamy goat’s cheese salad. It’s a good one to drink now, but with enough structure to reward a little patience in the cellar.
