A good week for Elvira Dyangani Ose
The Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art in Cape Town has a new artistic director, in effect its boss. Elvira Dyangani Ose, a Spanish art curator, has been appointed to fill the position held until last year by the late Koyo Kouoh. The museum, housed in renovated grain silos, is one of the largest institutions in Africa devoted to the continent’s contemporary art. Ose has worked in public arts organisations in New York, was a curator of international art at the Tate Modern in London, and until February was the director of Barcelona’s contemporary art museum.
A bad week for Mark Burke
Has the DA’s new rising star flamed out? Mark Burke, the party’s spokesperson on finance, is now under investigation by the Reserve Bank for possibly flouting exchange control rules through his fintech company Kastelo, to the tune of R4bn. It’s a blow to the 36-year-old who has been the face of the DA on parliament’s standing committee on finance, but will be hard pressed to retain his position with this cloud hanging over his head
