The Western Cape is one of South Africa’s most important agricultural regions. In the 2025/2026 season, the province experienced a range of challenges, including destructive floods that hit the fruit and wine industry and drier weather conditions that affected the wheat-growing regions.
In this segment of AgriView, we invited Daneel Rossouw, the head of sales at Nedbank Agriculture, to discuss these challenges. Rossouw is based in the Western Cape and interacts regularly with the bank’s clients in the region.
In our discussion we also unpack the impact of port inefficiencies, infrastructure challenges and rising input costs on the province’s vital export industries. We then turn to the outlook for the winter grain crop.
