A good week for Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi
It’s been 16 months since KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi’s explosive press conference, where he alleged law enforcement is in cahoots with organised crime. Since then, the Madlanga commission has unravelled the full extent of the horror, giving those claims credence. So it’s fitting that Mkhwanazi has now been tipped to be the new head of the Hawks, which would be deserved recognition of his dogged commitment to service and his steady hand to reinvigorate a sometimes tepid institution.
A bad week for Fikile Mbalula
Blaming potholes on climate change could be the peak of the ANC’s cognitive collapse. How else would you interpret secretary-general Fikile Mbalula’s latest verbal spew? “Potholes will be there because we live in a situation of climate change. There are rains, and water on the streets,” says Fiks. We recognise these as words; the mangled thought process that went into stringing them together, however, remains an utter mystery.
